Editor's Note: The current application for the Kroger 1-2-3 card states that Kroger will reward a $5 store certificate for every 1,000 points a card member earns. Rewards are dispersed quarterly.

The author is incorrect in her comments that the Kroger credit card only gives $5 store certificates for each 1,000 points earned. It's $10 per 1,000 points earned. The card also allows you to get additional money off gas at Kroger fuel centers.

Having a Kroger shopper card gives you 3 cents off per gallon. For each $100 in groceries purchased you get an additional 7 cents per gallon savings for a total of 10 cents with the shopper card alone. However, you get 15 cents off per gallon (12 cents above the normal 3 cents savings) by having the Kroger credit card (you don't have to charge the gas purchase to it, you just scan the credit card barcode instead of the shopper card barcode). You also get other coupons throughout the year (usually every two weeks) for additional savings at their stores.

I use this card regularly and I find the savings from the store certificates, gas discounts and the additional coupons are worth having it.

Chase also has a card which rebates 5% at Grocery Stores, Drug Stores, and all Gas Stations. Everywhere else is 1%. Maximum rebate is $300 per year.

It's worked well for us for years. I can't complain. The rebate checks go to a savings account which is growing.
