Regarding an attempted salvaging of US car makers, it should be carefully investigated before any approval could be made. a separation between the financial leg and the manufacturing leg need to be completely severed so jobs are saved and better, more fuel efficient or alternative fuel vehicles. We have people that need to have jobs, we also need to reduce our usage of fossil fuels.
I don't like the banking and manufacturing connection.
Regarding the bailing out of home-owners, it has not happened in significant quantities. most of the programs have so many limitations that they are very hard to qualify for. Most of these deals are only advertisements and not actual working programs.

Your not making any sense - what does socializing losses and privating gains mean? Sounds like a soundbite from CNBC..... and please - lay off the Blue State rhetoric OK? What does Obama have to do w/any of this...?? Face it (unlike any Big 3 executive/dinosaur has yet to do): Detroit is the marginal manufacturer of automobiles - that is an unfortunate yet undeniable fact - shame on them for making cars no one wants to buy for years and then blaming everyone exept themselves.....and just because they employ lots of people that means they have a right to exist? Doesn't make any sense....I'm sure both the typewriter and Horse- drawn Coach industries provided employment for millions at one point in history as well.....
Just because we made two mistakes by bailing out Wall Street and now trying to bail out homeowners doesn't mean we should make a third and bail oyt GM. Stop the Madness!! Obama should be impeached if he bails GM out just like Bush should have been for allowng Uncle Paul...(Read more of this comment)son to bail out Wall Street - when people/companies deserve to fail let them - maybe they will learn something from the experience and do things better next time.....(Show less of this comment)

Oh Forgot/ Would it be a goo buy to Buy Options on GM soon'? Like when the stock gets down to say $2-$4 a share?
If bailed out correctly? It could become a Stronger and more profitable co. in the future...

xj00477936, the irony in your statement here is that Obama's entire campaign was built on people holding their hands out... 'Redstributing Wealth'. I wasn't sure from your comment if you were suggesting he was the answer or not.
You are right, companies should be allowed to fail as should people. If you do something stupid you lose your money/job/security etc... tahts called Capitalism and it works or at least it built this country. However, socializing losses and privatizing gains makes no sense. My point in my original post was that we bail out greedy bankers and irresponsible borrowers but we let an industry that basically provides work for millions die.. makes no sense as far as I am concerned. Then again, who am I to decide on any of this... thinking is not a part of the game for Capital Hill.

'E PLURIBUS UNUM'
Auto workers should be no more immune to losing their jobs than Wall Street employees (i.e. Cerberus) or any other person employed by a firm that squanders its intellectual/financial/human resources. Mr. Stewart (and Mr. Obama too if I may be so bold): I have GREAT news! The U.S. DOES (or at least used to B4 Uncle George/Cousin Henry and their inbred inlaws in Congress stepped in)have a 'comprehensive approach to struggling industries' - it's called BANKRUPTCY....'Land of the FREE (free to succeed/fail/let markets work) home of the BRAVE (stop crying/holding your hand out - suck it up and start over again), NOT home of the bailouts.......!!

Well you maybe right, but? What's the alternative ? Does GM Go Bankrupt and Blame the Fed for not Bialing them out to the UAW and why they have to Reduce the Pension fund and reduce wages, etc.?
Making the FED the scapegoat...?
Makes sense to me..
And seeing as The UAW and it's Outrageous wages and Benefits contributed to this Mess... Should they not also share in the Problem caused?
Our Congressman, Paul Ryan says Foreign Auto makers and tractors are Not Taxed , but Ours are..in their Country? If this IS true? Then there is one Problem that has to be resolved..
And as for the VOLT? I don't think so..not for the masses... but the Wealthy who can afford it's $40,000 price tag and it should not have been funded...The Hybri is a Con Game.. Only can go 25 mph top speed? Constant Electrical problems? Disposing of the Batteries, where?
Just provide 4 cyl engines in everything and Standard and make the V6 and V8's optional. A Chevy Malibu with ...(Read more of this comment)a V4 is plenty for 90% driving... if need a HWY car the other 10% of the time? Then Pay for it..get the V6...
My V4 gets 25 local and 35 Hwy..and good enough for me..Using 10 gals a week at $3 gall is just the cost of going to/From work, etc.. so don't cry about it..
Home and Commercial energy use is the Key... and that's were we should be putting our Dollars to work to solve that problem...Not Subsidizing it.. or charging commerical Use Of Energy 50% Less than Homes pay.. is not the answer..
Commerical Buildings have had a free ride too long and it's about time things are Evened Up..
a single double glass door at these Businesses has been just one big energy user for opener's
and realy charge Alot more for V8 Engines in private vehicles...99% of the people Don't need them and Everyone else shouldn't have to subcidize them either..Directly or Indirectly thru the Gas Pump..they should have to pay More for their gas, not the same..

We waste money on a stupid bail out plan that NOONE wanted... now we see the Big 3 struggling and getting close to shutting down shop and we say.. sorry. Like the big 3 or not, if they go under hundreds of thousands of jobs will be lost over night. Not only all the Big 3 employees, but also the tier 2 and 3 suppliers as well. It is sad how little intelligence and commons ense we display.
This isn't propping them in up to save Wall Street, this is propping them up to save main street.. if you dont believe that just visit Detroit, Dayton, Bowling Green, etc etc.

Also GM needs to worry about themselves before trying to buy or merge into another failing company. And I would try to buy back GMAC back.
Like I said Rick Wagoner needs to go!

Rick Wagoner has got to go! I was never for the bank bailout plan. And look, the banks still are not lending. We shoulda bailed out or loan to the auto companys first. If people lose there jobs, then who will the banks lend money to?
Fire the top! Loan em the cash, and lets get rolling!
Also the UAW is part of the GM downfall! The people who work for GM need to be buying into there company and helping out!

Duh!!!! The UAW will decide whether to have a buyout or not. They want as much power and money as the Dems. and Repubs. This deal or no deal will be determined and shaped by the UAW.
