Commodity ETFs Rise as Dollar Drops

Market Wrap-Up

The market woke up in ugly mood and it only got worse as the Dow Jones Industrial Average logged its lowest close since 2006. Equities were cut down by a fusillade of bad news: Goldman Sachs slapped "Sell" calls on Citigroup and General Motors; Oracle, Research in Motion and Nike all issued cautious outlooks; the dollar slipped and oil spiked. The list goes on but the end result was that the Dow Industrials disgorged 358 points to 11453, while the broader S&P 500 dropped 39 to 1283. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index lost 80 to finish at 2321. Oil rose more than $5 to $139.64 a barrel.
