Data Leaves Stocks, ETFs Flat

Stocks stalled out Tuesday, finishing mixed and leaving most exchange-traded funds close to flat.

Better-than-expected home sales reports and worse-than-expected personal income data left the broad market range-bound. However, the data did provide a lift for the real estate and financial sectors. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 34 at 9320. The Nasdaq ended nearly flat, up 3 at 2011 and the S&P 500 was also flat, up 3 to 1005.

Personal income fell 1.3% in June, compared to an increase of 1.3% in May, the Commerce Department said Tuesday. Analysts had expected personal income to fall by 1.0%. The decline is the biggest monthly drop in four years.

Personal spending rose 0.4% in June, compared to an increase of 0.2% in May. The National Association of Realtors released its Pending Home Sales Index at 10 a.m., posting a much better-than-expected increase of 3.6%.
