SmartMoney magazine has been named a finalist in two categories for the Deadline Club awards.

Senior Writer Anne Kadet, already twice recognized by the National Headliner Awards this year, is a Deadline Club finalist for opinion writing for her monthly column "Tough Customer," which takes a unique perspective on consumer issues, from the absurd proliferation of in-store cafes to people who bury their moneyFull list of finalists here

Angie Marek, who was honored earlier this year by the Association of Health Care Journalists for her medical-beat reporting, earned her finalist nod for "Peddling Pills," an investigative piece that spotlighted the undue influence drug-company reps still have in convincing doctors to prescribe their medications. In the course of her reporting, Marek tagged along with one drug rep who was selling products to doctors and came along for a bar-gathering that drug reps held for a doctor, which the reps employer later said was outside its policy. Marek s co-nominees in the science, technology, medical or environmental reporting category are Time s Michael Grunwald and Arik Hesseldahl of BusinessWeek.com.

The Deadline Club, which has been recognizing outstanding journalism for nearly 80 years, will announce winners at an awards dinner in New York on May 19, where Bill Keller, executive editor of The New York Times, will give the keynote address.
