Certain restrictive firewall and proxy server configurations may prevent MapStation from receiving market data. If you are behind a firewall, contact your network administrator to set up special permission. To access MapStation from behind a firewall, your administrator must grant full access to port 1825 for the following hosts:
For delayed version: |
quotedelayed.smartmoney.com. |
|
For real-time version: |
quotereal.smartmoney.com. |
Reception is on port 1023 or higher and must also be granted access, although usually access is automatic when port 1825 is granted access.
BACK TO TOPWhen an upgrade is available, MapStation automatically informs you and gives you the option to download a special update file. The upgrade process typically takes less than a minute on a dial-up connection.
BACK TO TOPStarting Fresh:
To create a market list or portfolio:
1. From the File menu, select New. The New List dialog appears.
2. Select either Standard List or Portfolio to specify the type of market list.
3. Select Empty List or Template to specify how to build the new market list.
4. In the Name text box, enter a name for the new market list/portfolio and click OK. The table view appears and allows you to add or delete stocks to this new list.
5. To add stocks to the list, enter the ticker symbol for the stock to add in the Enter new ticker text box (bottom of the Table Screen) and click the Add button. To add several stocks at once, use a comma or a single space to separate the ticker symbols.
6. To delete stocks from the list, select the stock to delete and click the Delete Selection button (bottom of the Table Screen).
7. To enter the number of shares and purchase price for stocks in a portfolio, double-click the corresponding cell and enter the value.
You can import ticker symbols from any popular word processing or spreadsheet program into your MapStation tables or export ticker symbols from a MapStation table into another program.
To import ticker symbols:
1. In your spreadsheet, highlight the ticker symbols to import into MapStation and select Cut or Copy from the Edit menu.
2. Next, in MapStation click the table in which to import the ticker symbols and select Paste from the Edit menu in the Table Screen. The ticker symbols are added to the selected table.
Use the Color and Height menus to choose the statistics you want to display. (Don't overlook the Extended Data option, which gives you the ability to map balance sheet data and growth estimates.) Use the Size menu to make the rectangle size correspond to volume and revenue, as well as market capitalization.
BACK TO TOPYou can change the arrangement in two ways. If you want to move a company from one industry group to another, the simplest way is to click-and-drag it to the new area in the map. If you want to make broader structural changes to the groupings, click the Tree button to see an editable Windows Explorer-style view of the map. In this view you can drag-and-drop items, as well as right-click to bring up a more extensive editing menu.
BACK TO TOPA gray square indicates that we're missing some relevant data. For example, if you map five-year growth rates, a company founded two years ago would be colored gray. If your map has many gray squares, you may be looking at a broadly inapplicable statistic (for example, mapping long-term debt for a group of mutual funds).
BACK TO TOPYou can select from a wide range of statistics to display in the pop-up price updates.
To select the statistics for pop-up price updates:
From the Label menu, select the statistics to display in the price update.
You can activate and deactivate the pop-up price updates using the highlight menu in the Map Screen.
To activate or deactivate pop-up price updates:
From the Highlight menu, check or uncheck the Arriving Data option.
You can display a variety of information (including portfolio total) in the table view.
To select the data to view:
1. From the View menu in the Table Screen, select the statistics to view. The table immediately updates to reflect your selection.
2. To sort data, click the heading cell of the column by which you would like to sort. The content order changes to its alternate option.
3. To view the total for your portfolio, from the Display menu select Show totals.
The Market Movers can only be displayed in the table view.
To display any of the Market Movers in a table view:
Click the arrow icon in the upper right corner of each category of the market movers.
BACK TO TOPThe profile view organizes market information into a bar graph display that uses bars to represent companies and bar size to represent percent change. In this layout, green represents the gainers of the current trading day, while red indicates the losers.
BACK TO TOPUse the Sort menu to choose the statistics you wish to display. Use the Height menu to make the bar size correspond to volume and revenue, as well as market capitalization. (Don't overlook the Extended Data option, which gives you the ability to display balance sheet data and growth estimates.)
BACK TO TOPFor some companies not every statistic is available. For example, if a company has no earnings, we do not provide a P/E ratio. If you choose to sort by P/E (or any other statistic where data isn't universally available), all the companies without data are moved to a gray area on the right side of the screen.
BACK TO TOPYou can create more than one alert that tracks several stocks at a time.
To create an alert:
1. From the Alerts menu in the main window, select Create New Alert. The Create a New Alert dialog box appears.
2. In the Create a New Alert dialog box:
Yes. From the main window, you can access a color scheme list that allows you to change the appearance of MapStation screens. When you select a color scheme, the color change is reflected in all of MapStation screens.
To change the color scheme of screens:
1. From the Options menu, select Colors.
2. Select an appearance scheme from the list that appears. The screens in MapStation update to reflect the color change.
The Find Ticker tool enables you to search for the ticker symbol of any stock using descriptive keywords or company name.
To search for a ticker symbol:
1. Click the Find Ticker button in the MapStation main window. The Ticker Lookup dialog box appears.
2. Enter a keyword or company name in the Enter search keywords text box.
3. Click Go or press Enter. The results appear in a table in the Ticker Lookup dialog box. The percent column gives you an indication of the success rate of the search.
You can also track funds using this program.
BACK TO TOPSorry, but we do not have this option available at this time.
BACK TO TOPThere is no limit to the number of funds that you can track. However, the maximum number of stocks that you can track is 1,500. The percent value next to the ticker gives you an indication of how much you are using of the allowed 1,500.
BACK TO TOPYou may track up to 1,500 distinct stocks or funds. The percent value indicates how much of this quota you have already filled.
