Getting Started

This quick tour will introduce you to MapStation and guide you through the various uses of this application.

SmartMoney MapStation requires registration. Once you register, you will be e-mailed a SmartMoney ID code (SMID). You will need to enter your user ID the first time you use the program.

Click here to register now.

Double-click on the MapStation .exe file. Follow the instructions in the gray installer windows. You will be asked to enter your name, company and SmartMoney ID. The SmartMoney ID (SMID) will be e-mailed to you when you complete the registration process. Simply copy the entire SMID from the e-mail and paste (ctrl+V) into the SmartMoney ID field in the installing window.

1. Starting and Closing MapStation
Starting and closing MapStation is quick and easy!

To start MapStation:
1. Start your Internet connection. You must have a live Internet connection in order to run MapStation.
2. From the Start menu, select Programs>SmartMoney>MapStation.

To close MapStation:
1. Select Quit from the File menu in the main window. A confirmation dialog box appears.
2. Click Yes to confirm.

2. Creating a Market List or Portfolio Market ListThe first step in using MapStation is to create market lists, which enable you to group stocks that you wish to track, so that you can later access them for viewing and analyzing. With MapStation, you can create a broad market list, so that you can keep track of the market, or you can create market lists that resemble a major index or your own portfolio, so that you can track not only the major indices but also your own investments. When you begin to create a market list or portfolio, you will have the option of either using a template or using a blank list to which you will add stocks.

To create a market list or portfolio:
1. From the File menu, select New. The New List dialog appears.
2. Select either Standard List or Portfolio to specify the type of market list.
3. Select Empty List or Template to specify how to build the new market list.
4. In the Name text box, enter a name for the new market list or portfolio and click OK. The Table Screen appears and allows you to add or delete stocks to this new list.
5. Use the editing tools at the bottom of the Table Screen to add and delete stocks to the list.
6. To enter the number of shares and purchase price for stocks in a portfolio, double-click the corresponding cell and enter the value.

3. Displaying a Market List or Portfolio in a View
Once you have created the market lists or portfolios, you are ready to display them in a view. With the viewing buttons in the Map Manager (left pane), you can display a market list a map, table, news, or profile format. The viewing buttons are stored in each market list pane.

Table viewTo display a market list or portfolio in a table view:
1. Select the market list or portfolio to view from the Map Manager (left pane) and click its corresponding Table button.
2. In the Table Screen, use the View menu to select the data to display.
3. Use the editing tools at the bottom of the table, to add or delete stocks.

Map viewTo display a market list or portfolio in a map view:
1. Select the market list or portfolio to view from the Map Manager (left pane) and click its corresponding Map button.
2. Use the Size menu to select the statistics to represent with rectangle size and the Color menu to select statistics to represent with rectangle color.
3. To view the three-dimensional map, click the 3D button. You can click-and-drag the image for a full motion glance.
4. To view the tree view, click the Tree button in the Map Screen.

NewsTo display the news:
1. Select the market list or portfolio to view from the Map Manager (left pane) and click its corresponding News button.
2. In the left pane of the News Screen, select the article to read. With the Updates menu, you can select how often to refresh the view for updated articles.

ProfileTo display a market list or portfolio in a profile view:
1. Select the market list or portfolio to view from the Map Manager (left pane) and click its corresponding Profile button. In this view, green indicates the gainers of the current trading day, while red indicates the losers.
2. Use the Height menu in the Profile Screen to select the statistics to represent with bar height and the Sort menu to select the statistics to display. The profile sorts the highest values on the right and the lowest on the left.

4. Researching Stocks

Research ToolsYou can research a company using the following tools: Charts, Snapshot, Earnings, Financials, News, Ratings, Ratios and Insiders. You can access the research tools from the main window or from other working components in MapStation.

To access the research tools:
1. To access the research tools from the main window, enter the ticker symbol in the text box and press Enter.

Or click the Find Ticker button and in the dialog box that appears, enter the tivker symbol for the stock to research.
Click OK.
2. To access the research tools from the ticker, map, table, Alert Console, news, or profile views, right-click the stock to research and select a tool from the pop-up menu.

5. Using the Advanced Features

Advanced FeaturesWith the advanced features, you can create alerts to track a desired price change on a given stock and search for ticker symbols using keywords or company name.

To create an alert:
1. From the Alerts menu, select Create New Alert.
2. In the dialog that appears:

Enter the ticker symbol for the stock to track.
From the drop-down list, select a condition for the alert.
Enter a target price and check the Notify me box.
3. Click OK or press Enter to apply. The Alert Console window appears and enables you to edit or delete an alert.

To search for a ticker symbol:
1. In the main window, enter a keyword or company name in the text box along the main menu and click the Find Ticker button. You can copy and paste the results into an open view.
2. You can also click the Find Ticker button. The Ticker Lookup dialog box appears.

Enter a keyword or company name in the Enter search keywords text box and click Go. You can copy and paste the results into an open view.
