The percentile rankings in the tables -- 1 is best, 100 is worst -- are designed to help you decide what's the most important to you: return or volatility. It depends on both your level of comfort as well as how far you are from retiring. And remember: You needn't feel compelled to buy, say, your 401(k)'s international fund just for the sake of getting some foreign-stock exposure. Allocate your 401(k) money into the best funds available, and then invest in an internatioanl equity fund outside of your plan to get the diversification you want.
