More signs popped> up this week that consumers are spending and feeling better about their finances.
Retail sales popped an unexpected 1.3% in November meaning consumers did their part on Black Friday and over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. And unlike a similar bump October, this spending increase held up even when factoring out auto sales. Then, with spirits rising after an unexpected drop in the unemployment rate, the University of Michigan s preliminary reading on consumer sentiment increased by more than expected, to 73.4 in December up from 67.4 in November.
That s all good. But just because you re feeling more confident about the economy doesn t mean you re ready to throw caution (or discretion) to the wind.
